Get to Know Me
The story behind Out of the Blue Scuba—and the kind of training you’ll actually enjoy.
Learning to scuba isn’t just checking boxes on a skill list. It’s trust. It’s comfort in new gear and new sensations. It’s that moment when your breathing slows down and the water starts to feel like home.
Out of the Blue Scuba exists for that moment.
If you’re here because you’re thinking about getting certified—or moving forward from Open Water toward more advanced goals—I’m glad you found me. This page is where you get to know the person you’ll be training with, the vibe I aim to create, and what I care about most when I’m helping someone become a diver.
Why I teach scuba
I got into scuba because there’s nothing else quite like it. The underwater world changes your perspective fast: you become quieter, more observant, more present. And once you feel that shift for yourself, it’s hard not to want to share it.
That’s why I teach.
I love watching brand-new divers go from “I’m not sure about this” to “Wait—this is amazing.” I love the first controlled descents, the first relaxed fin kicks, the first time someone realizes they can solve problems calmly underwater. Scuba training should build real capability, but it should also be fun—because enjoying the process is part of becoming confident.

Comfort, clarity, confidence
What you can expect from Out of the Blue Scuba
When you train with me, you’re not just signing up for a certification card—you’re building a foundation you’ll use on every dive after this.
My approach is simple:
I take the time to help you understand why each skill matters, not just how to repeat it.
I coach you toward comfort and control so you don’t feel rushed through the parts that actually make a difference later.
I want you to leave training feeling proud, capable, and excited to dive again—not just relieved it’s over.
If you’re the kind of person who likes clear explanations, steady progress, and an instructor who genuinely cares about how you feel in the water, you’re in the right place.
Training paths (and where you might fit)
People come to scuba for all kinds of reasons: travel, adventure, photography, a new hobby, or a long-standing “I’ve always wanted to do this.” Others come back to training because they want more skill, more confidence, and more options.
Out of the Blue Scuba is here for the full journey—from first-time students to divers who are working toward professional-level goals.
If you’re not sure what level makes sense for you right now, that’s completely normal. The best next step is simply a conversation: where you want to dive, how you want to feel underwater, and what kind of diver you want to become.
PADI and what that means for your certification
You’ll see PADI mentioned because it’s a widely recognized scuba training organization. For most divers, that recognition matters—especially when you travel and want your certification to be easily understood.
If you have questions about how the certification process works, what’s required, or how to plan your next level, reach out. I’m happy to help you map it out in plain language.
Let’s talk and find your next step
If you’re considering certification (or continuing your training), I’d love to hear what brought you here.
Tell me:
- where you hope to dive,
- what you’re excited about (and what you’re nervous about),
- and what your goal is—first certification, advancing your skills, or moving toward divemaster.
From there, we can talk through the best path and get you pointed toward scheduling.
